Rimantas Kmita, PhD is a writer, literary critic and poet. Kmita’s most popular novel “Pietinia kronikas” (The Southside Chronicles), published in 2016, is written in the dialect spoken in Šiauliai. In 2017 he earned Jurga Ivanauskaitė Literary Award and the nomination of the Book of the Year. The novel has been adapted into a radio series and is a framework of a guided tour in the southern part of Šiauliai. The novel has been translated into German and Ukrainian; film director Ignas Miškinis and screenwriter Eglė Vertelytė is turning it into a feature film.
Rimantas Kmita will release his new novel “Remyga” soon (publishing house “Tyto alba”) which features the same town, the author’s native town, Šiauliai. However, this time he delves into an earlier period, 1988–1993.
