Laima Kota
Famed Latvian writer, better known to readers as Laima Muktupāvela, while her first texts were published under the penname of Felikss Baranovskis. She works in a wide range of genres and styles. Laima Kota is a prose writer with ten books and a number of awards. She is best known for her novel Klucis (The Clog), mythological thriller Cilpa (The Loop) and the collection of short stories Totēmi (Totems). Her novel Šampinjonu derība (The Mushroom Covenant) that was among the most popular books of the decade and received the prestigious Annual Latvian Literature Award in 2002 was published in the Lithuanian language in 2004 (translated by Dzintra Elga Irbytė). The Lithuanian translation of her book Istaba (The Room) about everyday life in Latvia during perestroika was published in 2020.
